Desire.

Desire.

A Poem by Sweet_pale_cacophony

Two hummingbirds
plumed gray..partly embraced by city soot
sit on wire in abeyance above my pretty head.

Apparently phlegmatic yet fleeting..birds
Frazzled ends of electricity wire gleaming in sun
Each in their own way like desire lumping at base of my throat.
Unfettered
Eccentric
Tender

I wish you were here..
I wish you were here...
I wish you were here....

Swaha you have taken a fraction of life something which we see but ever so rarely truly observe and evolved it into something equivalent to blissful serenity. The tone is tranquil, contemplative yet inviting as well. I can see one looking up and wishing for their love to be with them and share in that moment or even better be as the hummingbirds are...as one. The repetition reinforces the yearn.

oh . . . such a tall picture so far above our heads . . . this is wonderfully written

The repeated refrain of "I wish you were here" is what one imagines the birds to be singing - at least in the mind of the narrator of this poem. One can imagine this brief, wistful moment of reflection, and how the surroundings echo the feelings of the subject. There is a clear element of symbolism in this poem, and the way it is expressed is with a sense of longing and sadness, which lends it a tragic aspect.
