Last night I found myself walking down a long hospital white hallway, at the very end of which was a large glass double swinging door. As I grew closer to the door I became aware that someone else was approaching the same entrance as me from the outside. It was raining heavily upon him as he waded through the darkness, my eyes soon fixated on his shadowy, rapidly approaching figure. He was tall, ominous, and dressed in a dark black business suit with a blazing red tie; his mannerisms were intimidating, shoulders broad, gait swift and powerful. It became very clear that the two of us were on a collision course; one would have to stand aside for the other. All these things transpired within a matter of seconds, my heartbeat became audible in my mouth, suddenly adrenaline possessed me and I felt my pace quicken, his simultaneously increased to match my own, one of us would burst through those twin doors and vanquish the other, like knights at the joust we threw formalities and caution to the wind; without warning we crossed the point of no return. Lunging towards each other like madmen both our fists simultaneously gripped golden handles, momentum carried our bodies forward, his red tie rising with the wind, my blue scarf billowing out behind me in slow motion; abruptly shadow left his face and our blazing eyes approached the glass, terrified, we looked surprised as fleeting familiarity dawned upon us as soft features became illuminated by building light. Without warning we cast the doors out upon the other, letting fate decide the victor.
A very interesting poem. Again, like the Flowers Face, this was a bit different from other poems I've read, and again it was in a good way. It was kind of funny, actually, that you both took whoever got to the door so seriously. I'm not sure if this was what you were looking for, but it made me laugh.
I especially like the line 'It became very clear that the two of us were on a collision course; one would have to stand aside for the other.' The whole thing was very elegantly written, which is also nice to see in a poem.
Now this is just intense in all the right ways. The build up is awesome and yeah, a joust is an incredible metaphor for the experience. There's a cinematic quality that's to be admired here. A scene like this could be used in many contexts and that makes this glorious.
