Baby on the wayA Chapter by ♋ Iris ♋
"Makoto, what are you doing?" Anika watched from the passenger side of the car as he jerked it to the left. She turned around and stared at what almost caused an accident.
"Some dumb a*s was heading down the wrong side of the road. Damn near hit us too." Makoto was a nervous driver. He didn't tell anyone and he played it cool when driving with others, but he hated driving. He had the pressure of trying to keep everyone safe. That also made him a bit irritable when people threaten the lives around them be being, as he calls it, total dumb asses that have no regards to the rules of the road. Anika felt a sinking pit in her stomach as she saw the car. She had this odd feeling that she had seen that car before. It seemed haunting and ominous. The memory hit her hard as she watched the sleek, black, low riding car do an illegal U-turn. She held on to the "Oh S**t" bar that hung above her head. "Makoto, this isn't good." He looked over at Anika with worried eyes. Then he looked in the rear view mirror. The black car was behind them and closing in fast. Makoto hated this. He hated driving. He hated having so much stress on him. He hated when people were trying to kill the both of them. Suddenly there was a bump from the rear of the car. Anika let out a small gasp. Makoto looked at her worriedly. She was about eight and a half months into the pregnancy and this could seriously hurt the both of them. Another hit from the other car set off a small yelp from Anika. She held onto her stomach trying to protect it. That was what all that needed to happen to make Makoto go off. He put his foot on the pedal and eased the car off of the black one. "Hold on, honey." The road that they were on was pretty much dead. There were several cars that seemed to be heading home from work. Anika looked over at Makoto. He was serious now. She had seen him get mad at people before, but this time it seemed different. Something had tipped him over the edge as madness raged in his eyes. She looked back at the car and shuttered. The memories kept coming into her mind of the first time that she had seen it. She didn't want to remember. She holds her head while trying to get the thoughts out of her mind. Makoto kept one eye on the road and the other on the rear view mirror. He had to do everything he could to get away from these people. There is no telling what may happen with this psycho on them. He glances over at Anika and could tell that she was scared. Within that moment that Makoto was looking at her, the black car chasing them had pulled beside them. "Anika, hold on!" Makoto swiftly turned the car to the left to get off of the main road and head down a street. The black car didn't turn in time and kept going straight. Makoto took this chance and pressed the gas harder. This would give him a head start. "Makoto! Take a right and then a left up here!" Anika yelled while never taking her eyes off the road. Without question, Makoto did as he was told. He took a right at a tool shop and then a quick left into an alley in between two large buildings that would hide the truck. Makoto stayed completely still after he turned off the car. Neither of them spoke. Finally, after they were sure that the car wasn't coming for them, Makoto slowly got out of the car and around to the front of the car. "Honey?" Anika asked. Then she saw him lean over and start to throw up. She got out of the car and stood beside him. She rubbed his back and let him finish up. When he was done, he stood up straight then instantly leaned on the hood of the truck. "What a rush." He panted. Anika smiled weakly. "You did great, baby." Anika quickly wrapped her arms around him. He put one arm around her shoulders. Her touch instantly calmed down his reeling thoughts. She always had the power over him to do that. "That had to be one of the scariest moments of my life." She said. "No joke." Makoto said then looked at her intuitively. "That wasn't your first run in with those guys, was it?" Anika hated how good he was at knowing every little thing about her sometimes. "No, it wasn't." She said to his satisfaction. "The first time I saw that car was the last time..." She paused in mid-sentence. Makoto looked her in the eyes. This was serious business and wanted to know, but he wasn't about to force it out of Anika. She sighed and looked away. "Do push yourself." He says to her. She looks back up at him. Suddenly, Anika dropped to the ground while holding onto her stomach painfully. Makoto didn't have to ask anything before he scooped her up into his arms and put her back into the truck. "Hang on, babe. We are going to the hospital." He jumped into the drivers seat and took off out of that alley. "The...the last time I saw that car..." Anika panted through gritted teeth as they passed the tool shop. "The last time a saw that car was the last time I saw my mother alive."
