Snapped

Snapped

A Poem by ♋ Iris ♋

The stench of death.
The blood red sky.
The crackling of fire.
The screams of people as they die.

The looks of horror preserved the dead's faces.
The moon illuminates the pools on the ground.
Suddenly the screams all silence.
There is no one alive to make a sound.

I wrap my arms around myself.
I start to walk forward into the night.
This place was entirely wiped out.
That thought fills me with fright.

A question fills my thoughts.
Why am I still alive and unhurt?
What left me behind?
My hand squeezes instinctively onto my shirt.

I glance to the left then to the right.
Something runs in between some ruins of the old town.
I sneak my way closer to the scared creature.
That was when I caught the sight of my hands and looked down.

The crimson liquid was now staining my hands.
I pull out my pocket knife from my pants.
I remember everything now and my blood run hot.
The insignificant being came into view and I got into my killing stance...
