don't ask me why

written in a bad state to show the bad state when the words are caught in a flood of tears, when words are too much yet not enough. sometimes, it seems an understanding silence was all that I needed.

don't ask me why,
just hold my hand as I cry
from the inside

don't ask me what,
I'll say I'm fine and
we both know that's a lie.

these questions, I cannot answer -
I can barely speak without a shudder.
asking questions makes it harder,
when I'm barely floating
and drowning under.

even though it seems like nothing,
your presence itself is heartening.

don't ask me why,
just stay beside me.
somehow with you nearby,
I am where I need to be.

don't me why and
don't oversimplify.
I cannot explain
all of my pain.
but
with you here, I will try.
through sadness and madness,
... I will get by.
