Star Feet as Seen from The Hold

Star Feet as Seen from The Hold

A Poem by Zoe Rae

We are all Britney Spears
(Test this hypothesis with something other than reason,

Something more like intuition,
A self-aware surrender, a pickled hope).

We struggle to see ourselves
In our own reflections.

We can’t convey the truth
No matter how needed it is.

We all wish we had mesmerizing abs"
And sometimes do.

Our bodies move towards heat,
Towards the good books that shout

“I was raised on impurity"
It’s heaven and it’s brief!”

We gravitate towards cares
That have no answers,

That only flutter and burn.
We find the constellation

In the oil spill,
Though we were looking

For yesterday’s yes,
For a new pathos

That doesn’t leak"
For someone we wanted to love,

Who wanted to fall, but stood still,
Or for everything as we remembered it.
