Limerence

Limerence

A Poem by Zoe Hadashi

LIMERENCE

angry and sad
a parade of
facades to protect
shouting! swearing, s**t
muscles and fighting
a mind lost to the
social expectations
but when you
took off your mask, I
I smiled wide
because underneath it all
all of the false images
of unmediated masculinity
that I never needed
nor wanted
I saw you, really
looked, hope and
dreams, the future
and the past,
the present, here
and now, a man
free of any claims
vulnerable but happy,
a phosphene in the
closed eyes of society,
the aurora at the
end of the blackness
lying supine,
facing the abnormalities
we consider ordinary.

you should know,
I like ordinary
normal, you
I don't need fake personas
shields to mask the real
real you, real us
because you took off the mask
the cloak to hide it all
the insecurities
and like a jigsaw
you fell into place
layer upon layer
like a butterfly
you cacooned and grew
until you became so perfect.
you conquered
all of the doubts I had
with the abolition of
your coverings and you
let find me, you.

I'm in limerence
infatuated with the
unmasked
uncloaked
unveiled
real version of you.
