Venus = Roman goddess of love, beauty and the arts. Or alternatively, Venus = the morning and evening star. So, Venus has something in her keep which, it sounds like, is being eaten by the evil thing in the keep. The blood of Venus, you say, is her lifesong, and capitalize the word. I feel that the beauty and creativity which Venus embodies, is being devoured by animal instincts. This may mean anything. Could be a particular love being lost to an unworthy lover, could be the ravages of war destroying the beauty of life, could be creativity being stifled by responsibility. I don't know, am I even close here? Fascinating write though. I love how the universality of the poem is accentuated by the ability to see in it so many angles of life. Perhaps, you are saying that the beauty of life is threatened by our ability to sleep through life (Venus is, afterall, sleeping at the start). Very nice. excellent use of symbols, metaphor and tone and voice. Keep at it! - EllisD
