Part 1: Chapter 2A Chapter by ScintellaCadence
So, yeah. I'm curious as to what ever this place is. With the name flashing in my mind, and the lingering scent, I tromp up to the old door that matched the hanging sign. "Should I knock?" I wondered aloud. Kaisu did a flipping motion with his hair. "Why not just open it!"
I shrugged and turned the bronze door knob. It squeaked and the door was way heavier then I thought. The smell was so strong, it was like a perfume shop. Kaisu gagged dramatically. "Is anyone here? Hello?" My voice actually echoed. I was greeted by silence. The floor was mad of wide planks of oak covered in a filmy layer of dust, and there were shelves of vials and two whole walls were taken up by bookshelves. I noticed that- although the shop was small, It was very tall and a plain staircase with no ornate designs except for the railing having a carved line, curled like a snail's shell all the way up into oblivion. Kaisu shook like a leaf in a breeze. "Um we should really go..." I shook my head. "You wimp!" and usually he's the cocky idiot. "Come on, lets just leave!" I shook my head. again. "Fine but I'm going outside!" The heavy door swished shut behind him with a thump. The silence was really, loud. like that's all I could hear, or couldn't. "What brings you here?" A reedy voice distantly floated down like a moth. "Who are you? and this place,I've never seen it before..." "Dear, please calm down, it's making me nervous!" "I should be the one that is nervous!" the person harrumphed greatly, and creaked down the staircase. "You're all fiery brained, m'dear!" the person waddled and left foot prints in the dust. He was short and round, with a red wool sweater and tweed pants. His eyes were squinted and the lids drooped behind the thick lenses of the wire rimmed glasses. "Greetings, this here is my good shop, and yours truly is Robert Ketchings. Who are you dear?" "Um, Hey-hullo, er-hem, I'm Avigail. Avigail Stone, I mean..." I blushed. "Okay now Miss Stone would you like to meet my daughter's daughter?" "Wh-what?" "Won't you like to meet my grand-daughter?" I blinked. "What. Why? I'm sorry for seeming so rude, I just wanted to know what this" I gestured to the surroundings."Is about." "Well, dear, its a shop for power, and ability. You look familiar..." He became thoughtful. "Well sir, I've gotta go. Nice to meet you!" "And to you as well." I nodded (I must have a super strong neck by now) I stepped outside. Kaisu wasn't there, probably just going to the nearby cafe. I walked to it. He was bobbing his head in a music store, looking through albums, from Black Veil Brides, and Daft Punk, and not to mention Gorillaz. When I arrived I shook him on the shoulder. He had the music loud on his head phones, I heard the deep voice of Andy Biersack. "Oh yay, you took my advice!" "It isn't so bad, I guess." he shrugged "isn't to bad?! You guess?!" "Yeah..." I frowned for the millionth time (be prepared for a lot of that) "Don't do BVB like that, it isn't right!" he just switched it to deadmau5 and I gave up. I shook him on his other shoulder. "We've got a date with destiny, so go and get fresh and ready!" Sighing, Kaisu pulled his headphones onto his neck and I dragged him out. We were at this office building, the scheme was this; dark, gray, formal, indistinct and plain. Yeah, for people like me, killing yourself over the drabness should be easy. I walked over the cracked asphalt onto the cobbled side walk and opened the door. We were greeted by old coffee stains that reeked of bad breath, garlic, and barf. "P-u! This is some date with destiny." Kaisu's nose was scrunched up like a feral dog. "Come on! We're almost late." "Because of that epic detour of yours!" "Whatever." I went up the stairs two at a time, and ran down a hall, stopping in front of a door with 28 and Jerry Stone on a copper plate. I patted down the wisps of escaping hair (a frizzy mess), and straighten my slightly (very) wrinkled clothes. Kaisu gasped hoarsely towards me. "Could you please slow down? I've been diagnosed with asthma just last week." "Oh, sorry." I knocked on the door. "It's about time. I thought you just left me hanging!" a voice gruffly answered. "You sound like an old man, Uncle Jerry!" "That's cause I am. Watch the nail on the floor." He opened the door and sat down at a cheap old desk with a squeaky, black, faux leather chair. "Sit down." I glanced at the spindly wooden chairs questionably, they probably had lots of splinters. I sat down slowly and heard Kaisu trip and fall with an "oomph!". I ignored him, and uncle Jerry, sat waiting impatiently. "Well I only have an hour now!"I grabbed Kaisu's hand and using all of the force I could muster-pulled him into the chair to my right. "He's got asthma." I apologized. "I bet he does! Now down to business! You asked for my help, and here I am. You can be my secretary replacement for now and Kelly over there can go and be mister messenger boy. Kimmy's gotta look nice though, like today, not his bum clothes!" "His name is Kaisu, and what work will we be doing?" "Well, you manage my papers, and calls, and set meetings for me. You're my organizer, and I'll tell you how to do it like my old secretary, Gerda...she's sick is all and I don't want to catch her flu! Kurt over there can send files, bring me coffee, and some panini sandwiches, from that cafe down the block, run the fax machine, and give people messages, and send my mail to the post office. You've got yourself a car or something?" Kaisu blinked."So I'm like, your servant or something? I mean I've got a motor scooter..." "Sure, kid." Time to get to the important stuff."Well, how much is it?" "What do you mean?" He leaned back into his chair."the pay? Oh that?" He chuckled, I never like Uncle Jerry, really."You'll find out! It depends on how your work is...That boy gets a tip from whoever he sends stuff to, and I pay him during the job, depending on the job. It could be five dollars, it could be fifty!" Kaisu didn't look to happy. "Ah. Cheer up!" Kaisu looked away. "Well, okay, and when will I work?" "Avigail Stone, not to worry, it's on the week-ends, and during the week, its nights. I'm not a church person!" "Well, Kaisu over there is partly Jewish..." "He works on Wednesday and Thursday nights, and Sundays!" "Well, we have a deal-" Uncle Jerry cut me off and grinned widely. "Aaand I'm sure we do! See you next week, kids!" I can't believe him, and he knows what I've been through for the past year... © 2013 ScintellaCadence |
