The beginning

The beginning

A Chapter by ZmH

The autumn days grew long, winter slowly came. I awaited a letter every single day. No words were spoken, nor written, not one phone call. My heart began to ache, burn, call for you. Our little red house sat on an old dirt road. As each car passed my tention grew. We use to be so close, but now we are so far away. It all started the day work became hard to find. The very day i lost you as mine. You begin to travel to find the least bit of hope, one end that wasn't loose. In reality instead of my words you went away to search for her. Leaving me here all alone. Days use to be different. You gave me no other choice, but to live life alone.

Winter came, no word. The trees were iced and there was no sign of birds. Mother had been gone many years. So it came to no surprise my days grew longer, lonlier. I spent the days with Lacey our little dog. A Yorkie to be exact, she is all white. I stayed warm by the light misting heat of the fireplace. It is not very fun to have go out and get oak to burn just about every hour. I dressed normal for a 16 year old girl, i suppose. I bet many questions are forming in your mind. Like, why am i not in school? well for one i was home schooled and ended up getting my GED and saying f**k the rest. The next question your probably wondering is what a normal girl dresses like? Simple answer jeans and a t-shirt ( mainly college t-shirts). Though i dont believe im going to college it is a nice thought.

Ugh! Another morning, another day. Megan called apparently shes bringing me into the town where i pretty much never go. You are probably lost. I know i would be. I live in Minnesota, away from civilization. Thats the way my (to me) non-existent father liked it. "cant get in trouble where you cant go", that was his favorite phrase when he was around. I brushed my teeth one minute 30 seconds, one of my rituals. i pulled back my silky, straight black hair and looked in the mirror to see my lightning blue eyes. i hate them i have a pale complexion and freckles lining my cheek bones. Not exactly the ideal combination. My father a red haired, Irish man. My mother a blonde haired, blue eyed heart breaker. Out of the two of them i look most like my mother. Our lightning blue eyes shine with this unordinary light. Almost like the blue of a fogged window. We almost have the eyes of the blind. They got together very young and married shortly after.

Looking back on the days, i cant remember a day they were happy together. As a little child sitting in a crib i remember the constant screaming. The most vivid memory would be the one where my mom ran out the door. The old screen door crashed, almost like the sound of lightning. I was 3 at the time. I ran from my room to find my dad, head in hands, face red. You could see his pain illuminate from his body. Ever since then things haven't been the same. She never came back, never called, except once maybe two years back. Someone called from New York as i answered the phone all that was heard was a silent weeping. Could've been anyone though.

There was a loud knock at the door. I threw on a hollister sweatshirt, though i hate hollister, and walked at a sluggish pace to the door. I answered the door and there stood Megan. Short black hair , green highlights, green eyes, tan, 5' 1'' Megan.  Compared to me she was extremely short. Shes always makes fun of me and calls me an amazon. It's not really that funny because it's not just referring to my height, but to the fact i never date anyone past the first date. I guess im picky, or im just use to being alone. I grabbed my light coat off the brass coat hanger, that hooked to the white door. Today the temp. ran at about 40 degrees farenheit. The sun wasnt shining, clouds fill the sky, my kinda day.

"Can we take your car?", megan asked in her angel like voice. For the way she speaks you'd think shed look totally different. Her image screams DANGER. In reply i just shrugged, and pulled my keys out of my sweat pants pocket. Pressed the unlock button, and the light beep of my black jeep wrangler made me jump. Noises often do. Cant help it the little house i stay in is the quietest one you could ever live in. Not even a floor board creaks under the pressure of weight. The stairs though unsteady don't sway. We both climbed in my jeep/car, and drove to starbucks. Our typical hang out, well everyones hang out. Nothing much around.

We walked in and ordered our coffee. megan's plain. Mine mocha. Stupid me was walking eyes cast down. "s**t!", i said loudly as i ran into someone. My eyes slowy wondered up. leather jacket, muscular build, not someone i know. my eyes continue pale, lightning blue eyes, black silky, messy hair, shoulder length. Taller than me. damn, were the only thoughts running through my mind. "im so sorry", i said. "its ok"' he held out his hand and in his deep voice said:"names Taylor" "Kate", i said under my breath as i reached for his hand.
