when it rains

a poem for jose

the steady tapping outside my window

awakens me from my already restless sleep

the pain had seeped its way in and dug deep

it filled the trenches of my mind

flowed through the canals to my heart

where it remains in a well

until the sunshine brings me light

clouds foreshadow my every thought

lightning strikes the ground

and i can feel the tears cascade down my face

within the rain is my place

the light winds sweep the water to my face

the tears i can no longer face, the light in my heart has been repalced

the rains beat calms me

the comfort of no one knowing my tears have fallen

lightens my spirit, to were the sun lightly peaks

words again i can speak
