How long?

How long?

A Poem by chris hoagland
"

some spoken word poetry i wrote recently

"
I was walking home from class one day and this graffiti caught my attention
it read: How long can you pretend
you know when you where a kid, everything was a game "let's pretend that-" and "how about we instead-" that canyon of imagination and pure magic. how long can we pretend?
It gets me thinking. within those ten years what changes? your imagination dies. you loose your powers, your magic, your remedy. what physically changes? a new home? a new parent? sibling? school? friends? it all leads to the same, almost aging backwards gain your powers back, yet so flawed, you can live within your imagination yet again. but thats in your head, below your heart cracks and bleeds from loneliness. head and heart are two different worlds, with aa bleeding hart and a rainbow of imagination is no different from spraying purfume on a casket.
now i ask this one last time.
 How long can you pretend?
How long can you pretend to be who your yourself anymore?
