High School is the best years of your life

They say high school is the best years of you life.
They are all lying. I know it, because there is something much better later on, otherwise no one would live past 30. I think once they graduate, they block out everything they hated about high school and assume they were overreacting and so are you.
They blocked out the pressure coming from everyone, your parents and friends and teachers, to devote all your time to school and succeed...but to also go out and make many friends and live now because you won't be able to in college and afterwards. And also to grew up and be responsible and get a job and stop being a child. And to keep yourself young and to listen to your parents because you aren't an adult yet and to remember to get enough sleep. And you have a pressure you put on yourself to make all of this happen...which it can't. It's impossible. A very impossible pressure you are being crushed under.
Now there are those who are able to withstand the pressure and get out unscathed. Those are usually the ones to tell you that high school is the best years of your life.
Then there are those that numb themselves from the pressure, turning to the substances that will numb their brain and relieve them if only for a while. Without help, these people can end up with a dependency on the numbness for the rest of their lives, never able to escape the pressure of the world.
There are those that will find another way to deal with the pressure. Little baby cuts that soon turn to deep gashes and scars. They might be able to put the blade down, and step away, but not always.
There are those that never make it past high school.
Consumed by the pressure and never seen again.
