rose tea

A Poem by zeronineight
"

do you ever think about the lives and loves we've lost

"

do you ever think

about the lives and loves we've lost

about the chances and touches we've missed

the care and the comfort we couldn't bring?

do you ever think

about the times your guards were down

and all you had was him

because he was comfort

he was safety

he was the one guy

who saw all your ugly

and still loved you dearly

do you ever think

about the times

your guards were the highest

because you needed the walls to survive

because you needed to numb your heart

to live another day

you needed to be strong,

so cold to the bone

you had to.

and do you ever think about

the way the thought of him

all his little things

all his gentle nudging

all the love,

the comfort,

the safety

the understanding he could bring

do you ever think how

when all your guards were the highest

you still wished you could hug him?

I still have my love with me, but I ponder on what you have written and give him an extra hug. Maybe there will be a day when ……..

Beautifully composed.

The work has a great depth if one allows themselves to be immersed into the story it inspires, the dominant usage of second and third pronouns emphasize a distance from the narrator and the two main characters, "you" and "him", signifying the compassionate nature of the narrator, and the tragedy of their unreciprocated adoration.
Another great work and pleasant read from you, author zeronineight.
