a few more minutes

a few more minutes

A Poem by zeronineight
"

the day can wait

"

sometimes when we fall asleep

in the middle of talking,

i like to imagine

waking up next to you

sunlight would enter the room

and the first thing i see

is your sleeping figure

underneath the same sheets

i like to think

that i could watch you for a while

see you resting peacefully

because the day can wait,

or watch your brows furrow

as the sun makes it harder

to sleep in a little longer

then i'd sigh and start to recall

the things i had to do and if i

could sleep in next to you

you'd sense my wakefulness, maybe

grumble in your sleep as you

reach for my person

pull me in

i'd let you

i'd wrap my arms around your waist

and rest my head on your shoulder

sleep in a little longer

content to let the world pass by

for just a few more minutes,

comfortable in your embrace
