how you can be so confident

about two extremes?

 

i am confident

of your love for me --

i know for a fact

that you do

that my pain will bring you pain

that you're going to keep loving me

in many ways

for many years

 

i am also confident

that one wrong move from me,

and all of your love will go away --

it could be

a wrong thing

a wrong word

a wrong read of the situation

 

a bad joke

a bad job

a bad day

 

the bad side of me

i keep locking away

 

 

isn't it curious

how i keep my head together

how i smile for you each day

how i tread this line over and over,

steady for as much as i can

 

it almost makes you wonder,

what would it take

for me to fall over?
