Permanently Under Construction

Permanently Under Construction

A Poem by zeronineight
"

To the house that's always changing, what are you hiding?

"

To the house that's always changing,

what are you hiding?

You change these walls,

you change these floors -

their color, their cover, their height

whatever upper layer you can change,

you will.

You rearrange the furniture,

you store away the things

you don't want to throw

but never use,

So they just pile up there,

new rooms you build for all the

stacks and racks and boxes

of things throughout the years

from all the other houses

you left many years ago.

To the house that's always changing,

what are you hiding?

Do you think if you change

the color of the walls

the elevation of the floors

the way the things are arranged,

you'll never have to deal

with the leaking of the ceiling

that you always have to

re-seal after it rains

or the holes on the walls

that always lets the bugs

the insects, the pests in?

Do you think if you always change

into something prettier

easier on the eyes,

something more spacious

your guests

will never notice

the way this home

is crumbling by the day?
