i wanna write a piece

about you

about us

about how we are

 

i wanna tell the world

how beautiful

this thing we share is

 

how kind

and understanding

and compassionate you are

 

and i wanna write it

with gratefulness

with lots of love

and awe

and wonder

 

 

but all im finding in me is -

still wonder,

but a whole lot sadder

 

bc i wanna write all of this

but how do i write it

without feeling sad,

 

knowing

you are kind

you are understanding

you are compassionate

what we have is beautiful

 

bc you know the opposite

bc we know the opposite

from yesterday

from today

 

 

how do i write it

without wondering

why the rest of the world

couldn't be like this,

even just a little

 

why our communities can't

why our families can't

why sometimes even we can't

 

 

how do i write a piece

grateful, one day,

about you, about us,

about the things we share

and them not being sad everydays
