Parenthood-

 

Is not just about

providing a roof over your head.

That's sponsorship.

 

Is not just about having someone to

take care of you when you're old.

That's a retirement plan.

 

Is not about getting good grades,

fancy piano lessons or achieving dreams you couldn't.

That's a project.

 

Is not about saving your marriage.

That's blackmail.

And hostage.

 

Is not about siring a child

to inherit your lands and riches.

That's greed.

 

Is not about needing someone to do your bidding.

Or having someone to always follow your advice.

That's puppeteering.

 

Is not just about needing help in the household.

Or getting out of poverty. Or your family business.

That's an investment. Or unpaid child labor.

 

Is not about prohibiting condoms to your teens

and getting mad when unprotected sex makes a baby.

That's misguided. And ruinous saving face.

 

Is a lot of things.

But I refuse to accept these are only things

we know of, outside fiction.
