Recluse

Recluse

A Poem by Dave Lopez
"

A reflection on the social strain of going to a huge university like Rutgers

"

The salt stinging my eyes and sand clogging my throat

A feeling all too familiar to he who marches against the wind,

to he who seeks the beauty in life that lies just beyond his grasp

Overworked and underutilized

Understanding yet misunderstood

Denied acceptance,

but welcomed as an outcast

I will stand emotionless

Against the waves that crash against me

Let my fears be my anchor as I endure this crushing force on my own

Caught in an ocean of familiar faces,

I fight the current only to once again wash up on the shores of confinement
