Rain

Rain

A Poem by Zugzwang

The cornflower-blue morning
Promised joy and light,
But the doom-grey clouds settled and
Subdued the day.

Rain has a quiet power.
Like death, it brooks no
Argument; bids us kneel down
And embrace silence.

Strong imagery and a good use of language. I enjoyed your poem. Rain, I don't enjoy it, but it is needed so, I patiently accept its visits and know that it will leave, when it is ready.

Thanks for your kind words, Christine.

You are welcome.
I like this poem because it is one of the shortest ones I have read on this site so far however it still manages to hold so much meaning through imagery, strong vocabulary, and appropriate punctuation. I like how the lines differ in length but both stanzas are similar in length.

I do tend to favour short forms. This poem is a little free verse I wrote on a rainy day.
Oh beautiful! Rain makes us surrender just like Death does. But to be enabled with this realization is empowering. Very well written!

Thank you, Malika. Stay dry!!
I absolutely love when it rains. Any kind of rain and its power to wash away the stains of the day and remind you with its smell that there will always be a new beginning.

Love the imagery, word choice, and the silence.

Rain should always involve movies and/or extended periods of sleep, m'kay?

No, but I used to be a cycle messenger and worked in it all day. In London. Felt like a sparrow.

Sparrows are smart cookies.
yes, the quiet power---there is no argument---when the clouds settle upon us...we simply have to kneel and last it out...there will be a sun again, sooner or later.

I'm looking forward to the sun...we just had a rainy weekend. Spent it in the library of course!
