always gazing inward for a thousand miles, in my case. :) taking in the external view through the physical eye in order to gain understanding for our internal eye; giving what is intangible or abstract, a solidity and grounding. such a muse brings forth amazing results (and inspires others) as in this work you have written..thank you so much for sharing! Acoustic's comment influenced, by expanding, my read on your piece the second time through.
Some garments are worn to a threadbare state because there may be nothing else to don. Other garments may be worn thin because they are the more comfortable, even though there may be other similar garments hanging in the closet. So, too, with our own experiences.
Additionally, those who may have had to don certain life experiences may be able to appreciate beauty in a way that others, who did not have the wearing of such things, cannot.

This poem was just my attempt to articulate a sense of feeling particularly worn out and dissatisfied.
I have read with interest and appreciation the insights that others have taken away from the poem.
It certainly is true that we view the world and our experiences in it through the particular prism of our life history and experiences. So beauty in that sense is in the eye of the beholder, isn't it?

Inward gazing, but always elsewhere...superb. Maybe the fabric of who we are has stretched and faded over the years, showing too much of the bits we wish hidden, but its still holding, for now. Its sometimes that thousand yard stare that sees the beauty other eyes miss.
