Cockatoo

Cockatoo

A Poem by Zugzwang

I saw a Sulphur-Crested

Cockatoo

On the trail today.

Just hanging out, like

some gutter punk

with a bright yellow Mohawk.

When I got close, it

flapped and launched,

a confusion of wings and feathers,

up, over the trail, and

dived

Down into the gully:

a flattened out ‘m’ shape

from behind.

Powerful wings cupping the air,

gliding off

into freedom.

Keep doing your thing! :-)
Really enjoyed the pace of this poem & the cockatoo, described so eloquently, is brought fully to life.
Lucky bird to soar the heights & lucky you to see it.
