Run

All along the riverbank,

The thin sun falls

And lands without impact.

 

It’s so cold!

And the way is so far.

Will Summer never come?

 

Feet pound

And lungs bellow

Together

In that familiar rhythm.

Zugzwang,
"Run"
This poem sighed the message of a two fold purpose.
You are expressing through the medium of a run in a natural setting the desire for warmth and nurture: "the thin sun falls and lands without impact."
The earth is not warmed, or able to produce and grow....you long for warmth of life.
First line, middle paragraph,"It's so cold!" Theme of desire for warmth ongoing. "will summer ever come?"
Longing to finish your route-running; longing for warmth, love, solace? "Feet pound and lungs bellow together in that familiar rhythm." I wondered at the rise and fall of hope for a new season- new hope. Beautiful!

Hi Kathy,
You hit the nail on the head I think. I'd written the poem during a difficult time and the run stands in as a metaphor for how I was generally feeling at the time. And it was freezing! I often write about the negative. ..it's my way of articulating and exploring those states. When I'm happy I don't think about it much I just enjoy it!
Now it's spring here and the running is altogether mire pleasant!

Oh, oh, oh...I am so glad you can finally relax in the nurturing Spring. It's interesting how different we are in how we process. I love that you are kind eneough to bother with explaning a little bit about yourself and how it applies to your writing especially. Right now we are at the tail end of summer and Fall is coming on. Thanks Firebird. It was a freezing morning here in Brisbane...less than 10°C! We really do it tough down here! Now its summer of course so I am complaing about the heat at the nonce.

Haha! Lucky! Mind you I don't much like heat either. I had to scrape the ice off my car yesterday and today its just raining and grey. November is depressing. Spring is my favourite time.

We are currently experiencing summer storms. 31°C, 100% humidity. Like living in a jungle. Winter is the best season round here.

I lived in Thailand for a bit so I know what that's like.

Wow. I was there for a week and it was really really hot and humid. Like breathing soup.
