Long Division

Long Division

A Poem by ZeeArsonist

i'm building a tree house
barefoot
where the sun is always setting
orange.

days like glass jars without lids
spent filling with water
set out on a ledge
evaporating.

i listen to the birds
sing songs while they work
building nests searching food
doing what birds must do.

but you are like a shadow
cast long and dark

over everything my fingers
can not grasp.

your shade ends
and i realize where i have been
all of our days
now divisible by two.

the sun is always
as their songs continue
we are not.
