Queen of Hearts

Queen of Hearts

A Story by Rochelle
"

She may be a Queen but she has no heart.

"

Today I became Queen but not for all the right reasons, first I killed my twin sister then I stole a 3’000 year old emerald worth millions and after that I saved the life of a complete stranger. Originally this was only to prove I was worthy to marry the king but little did I know that the king planned to kill me. I was on my way to the rehearsal dinner when it hit me, my sister Savannah warned me about the king she also said she would make shore he would never kill let alone breathe again. When I reached the kings chambers I found him dead on his bed there was no blood shed he was poisoned, after that Savannah pushed her way past me and was next to rule. Can you really Judge me for trying so hard, all I really wanted was to overrule my sister and every man that ever doubted me because I was a criminals daughter a common thief you could say. Compared to the other people in this messed up world I was nothing but scum, the ground they walked on a low life until today I’m now royalty.

I could hear birds chirping as I opened my eyes; suddenly the door to my chambers opened as three maids came running in.

“Your highness we’re here to get you washed, feed and dressed” they said

“Thank you girls” I replied

After I was dressed I walked down to the throne room and sat on my golden throne.

“Open the Gates, tell the kingdom that the Queen welcomes them to the castle” I said

My long blond hair flew as a gust of wind came from the main door as it opened, suddenly a group of guards walked in dragging a man with his hands chained behind his back.

“Your majesty this man has been caught try to enter the castle several times today, he was also fighting with the guards at the church” A guard said pushing the man to his knees before me

“What is your name sir” I smiled walking over to him

“It’s Antonio your highness” he replied as I placed my hand on his chin lifting his face up to my sight

“It’s you, why are you still hanging around” I said

“I would like to work for you” he said looking at me

“Help him up” I ordered

Once he was standing I took a step back.

“I saved you, your life belongs to me” I grinned

“I’ll fight with you and protect you at the risk of my own life” he said bowing his head

“You will do no such thing, to fight with me or to protect me but to risk your life that is important to many but you say it means nothing” I said with a series face

“I understand my Queen” he said

“Get him a change of clothes and unchain him, then bring him back to me” I said as the guards took him away

I walked back to my room, looking around I felt no joy from all I had accomplished what kind of Queen am I, suddenly there was a knock on the door as it opened, Antonio was waiting for me.

“Come in” I said sitting on my bed

“You seam upset” he said looking into my eyes

“Have you ever had to work for something but once you have it the joy goes away and the pain comes rolling in” I said as a tear fell from my green eyes

“I’ve never really stopped working for what I truly desire” he said putting his hand on my head gently

I never really noticed this before but he is taller than expected, his hair is naturally black and eyes are hazel.

“I don’t need your pity, so leave” I yelled pushing his hand away I slamming the door in his face

He has no idea of the pain and suffering I've coursed, I can tell the truth will come out and the Villagers will hate me. I’m distressful not worthy to become Queen, I’m just a thief’s daughter, what should I do I’m alone.

Stepping out onto the balcony I could hear people chanting my name “Queen Josephine” over and over again. It was like a dream come true, suddenly a voice came from beside me.

“Your name is Josephine then my Queen” Antonio said jumping of the balcony ledge

“How did you get up here, let me guess you climbed” I said walking towards him

“Actually I jumped from the window” he said leaning against the wall

“My father said he named me after my mother” I smiled looking down at the villagers

“So I gather the people of the kingdom don’t know about your crimes” he said with a series face

“No, one knows” I said

“I know” he said

“But I can trust you right” I said as the wind picked up

“You can trust me with your life my Queen, before you saved me I had no memory of my past but now I no longer care because you will be my future” he said kneeling before me

“Thank you for your kind words, from now on you will stay with me until death parts us” I said placing my hand on his head gently

“Yes My Queen, till death parts us” he said I could tell he was happy by the way he hugged my waist trying to hide his tears but not even the strongest of heroes can hide from the Queen.

I’m nothing like her she is light I’m dark, she is sun and I’m shadows what kind of Queen would I be if the light controlled me. Memories of my family fill my dreams but the one I never see is mother, why are you not there, why can’t I see you are you really gone forever. If so I need you I miss father and sadly I regret destroying the only family I had left but pain fills the cracks of my past and my future is dripping with the blood of time. Set me free because I’m not scared of death it’s self but the pain of being alone after, that is what I fear most. Lifting my head of the pillow, when did I go to sleep I have no memory of this. I could hear screaming and gun shots a bright light came from the village. Walking over to the balcony I saw that the village was being burnt to the ground.

“Antonio, Antonio” I screamed

Suddenly Antonio came running through the door he lifted me up and jumped of the balcony, we began falling until suddenly everything slowed down opening my eyes I looked straight at him he smiled and began running. Soon we came to a clearing, Antonio put me down.

“What happened” I said stepping back

“One of the guards overheard our conversation last night and told the nearby kingdom, now the king has sent his army to kill you” he said

“What about the villagers and the castle staff” I said looking up at him

“Their fine I told them to leave last night just in case the roomers where true” he said wrapping his coat around me

“Take me to where the villagers are” I said

“Yes your highness” he said as we began running

Soon we came to a forest looking around there was no one in sight.

“Come out your Queen is here to protect you” he yelled

Suddenly the town’s people came running out, a woman came running up to me.

“My Queen the king has taken the children and holding them until you turn yourself in” she said with tears in her eyes

“I’ll bring them back but for me to do so you have to trust me ok” I said

“Yes your majesty, we understand”

We began making our way to the kingdom of Althea, hours past when we finally reached the gates to Althea. Suddenly two guards walked out holding their weapons ready to attack.

“Put them away now I’m turning myself in” I said as they grabbed my hands chaining them behind my back

“My Queen I’ll take the villagers to a safe location” Antonio said as I nodded

The guards took me in; once we were in the throne room they pushed me to the ground in front of the king.

“Remember she is still a Queen, stand her up and unchain her” the king said still sitting on his throne

“Let the children go, let them be free” I screamed

“I never had them, I paid that village lady 1’000 to lie and then if any one told you they would be summoned to the executioner” he laughed

“Am I that bad, why does everyone hate me, I’m not even royalty” I said falling to the ground

Tears began to fall from my eyes looking up the king walked over to my side; he helped me to my feet.

“As Queen of Deandre you have failed your duty to your kingdom you killed the king, stole an emerald and have sent your villagers to the deepest part of hell” he said walking over to his throne

“Do you regret any of it” he smiled you could tell he was enjoying this

“I didn’t kill the king I swear on my sister’s grave” I said looking up at him

“I know you didn’t kill the king but if you die I will rule both kingdoms alone and who can say no to that” he giggled

“Kill me I don’t care but I have one wish before I suffer the fate of many before me” I said stepping closer

“And what is that” he smiled

“I would like to talk to my people and own up for my mistakes” I said

“Fine tonight you will give your speech and tomorrow you will die” he said as the guards chain me taking me to the dungeon

Night soon came the moon was a new shade of blue, the king dressed me in a white ball gown my hair was waved to the side and my hands chained behind me. This was my bitter sweet end, I am the rain before a rainbow, the darkness before the light; I am death one word that ends everything without even trying that word contains no life but controls it. Suddenly the guards took me to the highest balcony looking down it was surrounded by villagers.

“Your kingdom have come to watch you suffer and it looks like mine has come to cheer you on” the king laughed

“MY KINGDOM AND THE KINGDOM OF DEANDRA HAVE BEEN SUMMON FOR THE QUEENS LAST WORDS BEFORE HER LAST BREATH” he said to the people that stood below

I took a step and began to speak.

“MY LIFE HAS BEEN FULL OF LIFELESS MOMENTS, DISASTERS AND DEATH BUT I DID NOT KILL THE KING. I STOLE AND CHEATED BUT NEVER ONCE DID I HARM YOU ALL, I DON’T FEAR DEATH SO BRING IT FORTH LET MY LIFE END BUT WILL THIS STOP YOUR PAIN I THINK NOT. WILL THIS END THE RAIN OF TEARER, THE SCREAMS OF SADNESS THAT IS LIFE, YOUR JUDGING ME BUT NOT ONCE HAVE YOU BLAMED YOURSELVES. ALL I CAN SAY IS I’M DESTINY TO DESTROY, AND IF THE ONLY WAY TO STOP ME IS TO KILL THAT I DO NOT UNDERSTAND, WHAT IF I COME BACK STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE WHAT THEN. I WILL LIVE FOREVER IN YOUR HEARTS, TEARING OUT WHAT IS LEFT OF YOUR LIVING SOULS” I said smiling

Everything went silent as the king grabbed my shoulder.

“How dare you insult us, we are all here to see your last words and you defy our lives” he said squeezing my arm

“Your last breath I cannot wait for, so now you will die as free, like a bird but you will not land as soft” he yelled pushing me over the balcony

What should I think of before I die my life, or the people I love? But I love no one not my mother, father or sister. I only think of him the one that provides the light in my dark life, he who gives me more than gold but love, he is….

“Antonio” my voice echoed

Suddenly worm hands grabbed hold of me, looking up it was Antonio he was different from the others in my life. He continued to carry me until we were a safe distance away from the king and his men. Why do I hurt the people I love, the pain of my darkness will never end not until I die. I’m not human but a monster, all I do is destroy but can I be saved from this darkness and brought into the light I will never know.

Morning soon came, all I could think of was the sadness that consumed the memories of my late sister, I deserve to die. Looking around Antonio was nowhere to be seen he was gone, I don’t blame him I’d run to. I began walking not knowing what direction I was going it just sounded like a good idea at the time. Soon I reached a village unlike the one’s back home people walked around freely with not a care in the world. Children danced and sang as their parents were hard at work, a life full of happiness. If only if only it was that easy I slowly walked through the village with my head down.

A voice came from a dark alleyway “Excuse me malady If I may your dress is ripped”

“What get your hands off of me” I screamed as she pulled me into the alleyway

“You've grown to be such a beautiful woman” she said

“Who are you” I whispered

“We have never met but I was your father’s friend and he would want me to help his daughters” she replied

“Come with me, your friend has been captured by the king” she said as I followed her to the castle

We crept inside though the slave’s kitchen and made our way to the throne room once there we could hear Antonio’s voice.

“She won’t come to rescue me, I’m nothing to her” he screamed

“That’s not true, she loves the feelings you give her” the king’s voice said

“The Queen love’s no one” he replied

“If that’s so than why is she here” the king said looking over to the door way

Suddenly someone pushed me into the room; the king’s face lit up as Antonio dropped his head. Antonio’s chest was covered in wipe slashes, blood ran down his body dripping on the cold ground.

“My king, here she is” the woman said tacking me over to him

“You betrayed me I thought you were my father’s friend” I screamed

“Well I lied” she smiled

The king walked over chaining me to the wall, Antonio fell to the frowned in pain.

“How does it feel to be betrayed by the only family you have left” the king laughed

“What do you mean” I replied

“This woman is your mother, she was never died but instead working for me here” he smiled again

“You’re not my mother she is loving, selfless, kind, and beautiful” I screamed

I looked at Antonio as he took his last breath, tears ran down my cheek. I have lost more than I have gained, no human can feel such hate for one person, I hate myself.

“I forgive those that have crossed me and hate myself for the lives I have taken, forgive me lord for I have sinned. For that I will pay, so don’t cry for me I am now set free and no longer can do wrong” I said as the king raised the knife plunging into my heart but do I regret my life. Do I regret the one that’s love has set me free.

You will never know.
