The sun was setting over the forest and I was starting to get sick of waiting for Stefan. Without hesitation I grabbed my coat and walked outside. I walked past the town and it’s people and heard music playing, curiosity got the better of me and I went to look around first. The town was having a party to celebrate New Year’s. Decorations from Christmas were still hanging on trees and light poles. I can’t believe that I missed Christmas; my most favourite time of the year. I was just about to head home when I saw Stephan in the distance. He had a beer in his hand and two girls hanging off him. I walked towards him, what was his problem? I had waited all day for him to come back but he had been drinking.
‘What are you doing?’ I asked him. He looked over at me with a bored expression,
‘Having fun, why don’t you try it sum time’ the girls smirked at me and one stroked his arm,
‘Let’s go home,’ I said but he just ignored me so I decided, to leave. To hell with him. He obviously doesn't care so either do I. On the way home I felt eyes focused on me, looking around I noticed someone trying to blend in with the shadows as they got closer to me. The stranger pulled out a dagger and before I could respond it was buried in my chest. I screamed on impact and fell to my knees, clutching my chest, looking around no one was there any more. Blood covered my hands and I worked up all the energy I had to pull the dagger out, throwing it as far away from me as I could. My shirt was covered in blood as I stumbled back to Stefan’s house, when I got there he was sitting there waiting for me at the front door. He ran to me and grabbed my hand that was covering the hole in my chest before pulling me into the house.
“What happened, are you OK?” I pulled my hand away and brushed past him,
“Nothing, why don’t you go have another beer with your girlfriends” I crawled up the stairs and left him standing there with a worried expression. I collapsed on the bed and fell into a dreamless sleep.
Morning came and to my shock the stab wound was almost gone. I opened the blinds and spotted a man staring at me from the shade of a nearby tree, his red jacket stood out against the plants. It reminded me of something I had seen before but the memory didn't come back to me. Walking down stairs I found Stefan fast asleep on the couch, he stank strongly of alcohol as I walked past him and into the kitchen.  I filled a plastic jug up with ice cold water before heading back towards him. My anger consumed me as I poured the water all over his face. Stefan jumped and gasped as the water ran down his face.
“Now I have your full attention; tell me what is with the little black box and the book inside it,”
“Black box? Book? You mean to tell me that a black box came for me and you didn't even tell me?” His face filled with anger as I rolled my eyes at him before storming out of the house.
Passing the town I remembered that moment when I first saw him and met his gaze. He was so happy and never betrayed me, but now I think it would be better if I left. The day past in a flash and I found myself sitting near a river looking up at the sky. I felt a slight chill going down my back as I got off the ground and walked back to the house. Opening the door I saw that the house was a mess and there was blood everywhere. It was like someone attacked the house trying to find me.
