Julius Caesar

Julius Caesar

A Poem by Gleb Zavlanov
"

A great, yet tragic emperor...

"

Oh, Caesar, though our touch is lost in time:

Weeks, passing years, and years long eons, passed,

I still can hear and feel in learnéd rhyme

Your essence. Like some bee which has amassed

Sweets of the digitalis and the rose,

So have you much amassed in glory’s sack.

Yet just as power strengthens, so greed grows

And weighs much heavy burdens on the back!

Oh, Caesar, stricken soul who now weeps on

The fallen ashes of your flaming lands

Who roamed into the gold of Egypt’s sun

The spirit who travailed on its sands,

It looks as if the boon of glory’s womb

Had come to stow the image of your tomb

Thank you very much.
The ending gave me chills. I only know a small bit about Ceasar and what happened to him.
Nice write. ^^

No problem. =3
So eloquently written, as always Gleb. Those last two lines are killer. Great job.

My favourite Shakespeare play...this one was in my library well before I'd finished reading it. Another jaw-dropper from you catalogue. Great work.

You are welcome...:)...................
What an eloquent, beautiful piece! How perfectly you use descriptive words! You rhyme without trouble, and it seems as if the words just flow from some primitive, essential source! What a masterpiece!

The spirit who travailed on its sands,
It looks as if the boon of glory’s womb

As famous in how he dies as lived. Fantastic piece.

:D. Thanks.
a stirring write this is...

great homage paid to one who seemed from all of the historical accounts to be quite a good man, one who met an unfortunate demise.

It was a very unfortunate demise, indeed. Thank you for reviewing.
