Emily, maybe

Emily, maybe

A Poem by Zatoichi
"

there are as many versions of a person as there are souls that person loves.* * * Soul cookies w/ real strawberry cream for those who "get it".* * *

"

The beaded curtain brushes aside easily,
falling back into place to form the face of
Mona Lisa.

It is the illusion of privacy that allows
Emily
solace from all the young needy souls.

She burns for art,
enjoying cheap puns and
Shakespearean soliloquies alike-
for what they are, and are not. No pretension here,
but great respect for the theater of the heart.

The Emily i see, my favorite avatar
hands folded in her lap
imagination focused on the satellites
that sing in her orbit for she is a star.

this was unpublished the last time I came by . . . not someplace I expected to wander this morning . . . an amazing surprise. It might be a little disconcerting to see your reflection in the words of another were it not art for art's sake.

I often wonder how many versions of one person are possible (I suspect thousands) . . . even in our own minds. I'll add this one to my list. It was a pleasure to meet your imagined Emily

I came back to these words today for solace . . . because sometimes in the theater of the heart we give what we can until we can't anymore.

nice young Pakistani woman calls me blue eyes, and I supposed she assumed that because I am American . . . how foolish am I? This morning I told her that my eyes are very, very brown. And what do you think she said to me?

"mine too, but you see, there are two emilys, one mine and other theirs, mine has blue ones like the blue waters of our lake,"

how amazing is that? I never thought to have blue eyes. There are so many Emilys.

Resigned in the search for answers, hands folded are not cupping to be filled indeed needless when the eyes are lifted to the sky, but what would I know but a speck on this spot.
