Literary Ladies

Literary Ladies

A Poem by Zatoichi
"

There are some incredible voices to be heard here

"

Alice knows Dorothy Parker,

lunching with her regularly, while

Jasmine takes high tea with the Queen of Bohemia.

Rachel met Rimbaud at a sidewalk cafe;

Jess teaches chess to Edgar Allan Poe.

Julia carries Jesus in her blue jean pocket while

Chloe sees all from the last pew at St. Patrick's Cathedral.

These are the ladies of literature,

girls in fact, trying on ideas like the latest fashions.

Passions rise at the perfect fit-

for Alice, the wit of Wilde brings out the crazy in her eyes,

and Jasmine lives her own Three Penny Opera.

Rachel and Jess continue their quest for the perfect word;

Julia is busy turning her doubt inside out while

Chloe can be heard on the street, keeping the beat.

about people I only know
from dining at this wonderful Cafe.

i met gwendolyn brooks a few times...amazing lady, amazing poet...

we discussed her pullitzer prize which she won the year i was born...

i love this poem.

it is a tribute to famous writers but at the same time shows that casualness with which we often view our favorite writers...as if we have had coffee or tea with them...and know them as friends rather than acquaintances through literarture.

Love it! You are truly talented in your ability to put thoughts together in an entertaining fashion. Your use of words to describe in a few what you mean is awesome. I am challenged.
