You Tell Me

You Tell Me

A Poem by Alex Davis
"

just some manifestation of recent thought

"

You tell me I’m in over my head,

You’re deafly afraid of breaking me,

You say I’d do better with another instead,

You insist you’re as complicated as can be,

You’re waiting for me to dissipate, expecting me to falter,

Awaiting my hate and forecasting me colder,

You think you can change my mind,

That these feelings we share are best put behind,

But don’t hold your breath girl I like you this hue,

And you may just find yourself turning blue.

It doesn’t have to be complex,

Now I don’t mean to vex,

But why worry for tomorrow before living today?

Let’s gather us these rose buds, while we still may.

Tomorrow’s not for hours, but this day it’s ours,

Time can bring pain, and it drags us for miles,

Now we know nothing, and that much is plain,

But when we recall our time, why shouldn’t it bring smiles.

So I’ll give you my hand, if you give me yours,

There’s no need to brand, but why close doors?

If it feels nice, no don’t think twice,

One step at a time, we all get where we’re going,

Sure there’s mystery, but what’s the fun in knowing?

Our lives are but a short walk through forever,

One step, two step, let’s take them together.

:)
