Here I SitA Poem by Alex DavisHere I sit So here I sit, And there you go, Someday it’ll hit, It should have long ago, Wash rags and lagoons in crowded solitude, Thus far I’ve written, thus far I’ve gone, Still more to go, this sad old song, Just another rhyme, to lighten my mood, Not much has changed I’m sad to say, I guess you’d see a pattern, But see, my visions scattered, So here I sit and here I lay, By myself, but then that’s the way it goes, Never alone, oh no, always friends, Yet somehow arm length is but woes, Little does heal, when there is naught to mend, I’ve written it all, time and again, Not always the same, but never changing, Different day, more paint is peeling, And yet the same poem, so here I sit, so here I remain, I do it to myself no one sat me here, I do better from this spot, It’s what you need, I help a lot, And yet here I sit, and none draw near, I’ve done all I can to help them, As the fabled man of iron told, Nobody wants him, He just stares stares at the world, A man of iron, tough to boot, Had only my heart followed suit, More convenient for some, More helpful to most, I do what I can, with cheerful hum, So here I sit, I haven’t left post, All those around me in anguish, these toils in love betokened, Past loves, young loves, hearts laid broken, And here I sit, my heart pristine, untouched, And yet empty, cobwebbed n’ such, So true you’re glass may be shattered, But at least it had been full, for a time it was held, by another sheltered, So here I sit, naught but my own weight to pull, You see a man far wiser than I, a must, Once had a saying, now cliché to call, Tis better to have loved and lost, Than never to have loved at all, So here I sit, and here I obey, Here I help, here I mend, here I’m ‘Friend’, Here I sit … and lo, here I stay. © 2012 Alex DavisAuthor's Note
