A road with no U-Turn

A road with no U-Turn

A Poem by Dr. Z
"

This poem was written for my son's 15th birthday (Nov-2016) and was inspired by my conversations with parents whose kids graduate high school and leave home in pursuit of education.

"

I see you are fifteen

And you hide behind a screen

You have no schedule no routine

You seldom take a shower

Your food often go sour

And you run by battery power

How could I have foreseen?

A half human, half machine

You have reached another stage

I can’t keep you in a cage

But I am worried when you fly

You would want to touch the sky

And forget about the ground

Where we will be around

Or you may want to fly low

But that wouldn’t let you grow

You will have a poor show

Or may get a nasty blow

You may move from row to row

Looking every day for dough

I see the day that I had feared

Now I see you with a beard

You have grown too much too fast

And have broken every cast

A thousand days and counting down

You will be moving out of town

So let’s enjoy every day

Even Pokémon I will play

I will eat the junk you eat

No more vegies, fruits or meat

I’ll do the things you like

Your mom can go on strike

As I follow your dreams

I will have no more schemes

Cash and credit I will lose

When you go on solo cruise

I seek no profit no return

It’s a road with no U-turn
