Holy Child

Holy Child

A Poem by zainul
"

I met a cute little girl in the staircase

"
I was surprised by the sweet words of the little child
She was standing on the staircase holding the railing
She was a   sweet little girl and her look was mild
I looked at her and wondered if she was ailing

But,she was in good health and looked quite bright
She requested  me in fondling voice to call her mother
She told me that she was alone in home and took  fright
Looking around I found none to look after her

I wanted to comfort  her through words for some time
Asked her name  and tried to make her smile
She told her name and recited a nursery rhyme
I thought that her mother would come in a while

She looked   happy and I thought to leave her alone
I assured her that her mother would come soon
But,she was not ready to see me gone
I became surprised again as I was not at all known

She wanted someone to stay with her for protection
I  felt very pleased to see the wit of the  little girl
She knew how to capture someone's attention
I wanted to call her as a lovely  blessed pearl

My waiting with the little girl did not last too long
I heard footsteps on the staircase sometime later
A woman came hurriedly  and felt something wrong
The girl's face became brighter and she looked better

I told her mother that the child was gripped by fear
Her mother looked   strangely as if nothing happened
The holy child sought caress and  tried to cheer
I felt relaxed to think that the crisis came to the end

To tell the truth I recently started reading the poems except russian poets.
So creativity foreign poets is new for me, at least without being translated into Russian :) I really like your poem.
Children are the symbol of innocence and you created the image of infinite light.
Reading your poem helped me to forget about some sad things. Thank you very much

Sir, It was a great story rather happening which you presented in the form of a poem with some rhyming in some of the sweet stanzas. the relation between mother & child, relation between an admirer of child & the child herself , the state of a girl child has always interested me. And it was a gift reading this piece. Children have always intrigued me. Thanks for sharing a great experience.

This poem is brilliant, it captures the purest nature of mankind; you expose the innocence of a child and if this story could find a center stage it would steal center stage, again most brilliant. Bravo!

Great story telling sir. You kept the reader gripped till the end. The conclusion was pleasing and heartwarming. The reader wants to reach out to the little girl and feels happy the child is finally pacified. Little children always tug at our heartstrings especially if they look insecure or troubled. You brought that sentiment very effectively and touchingly here.

Beautiful true story. A child is so much like a pretty flower, rooted to where she is, and at he mercy of an immediate environment that's filled with both darkness and light. You were her light in the darkness of her fears.

yes, we need to protect our children...and this captures the feeling of being lost in fear when there is separation...the child and parent are just as scared...
