Holy Child

I met a cute little girl in the staircase

I was surprised by the sweet words of the little child
She was standing on the staircase holding the railing
She was a   sweet little girl and her look was mild
I looked at her and wondered if she was ailing

But,she was in good health and looked quite bright
She requested  me in fondling voice to call her mother
She told me that she was alone in home and took  fright
Looking around I found none to look after her

I wanted to comfort  her through words for some time
Asked her name  and tried to make her smile
She told her name and recited a nursery rhyme 
I thought that her mother would come in a while

She looked   happy and I thought to leave her alone
I assured her that her mother would come soon
But,she was not ready to see me gone
I became surprised again as I was not at all known

She wanted someone to stay with her for protection
I  felt very pleased to see the wit of the  little girl
She knew how to capture someone's attention
I wanted to call her as a lovely  blessed pearl

My waiting with the little girl did not last too long
I heard footsteps on the staircase sometime later
A woman came hurriedly  and felt something wrong
The girl's face became brighter and she looked better

I told her mother that the child was gripped by fear
Her mother looked   strangely as if nothing happened
The holy child sought caress and  tried to cheer
I felt relaxed to think that the crisis came to the end

The narration.... of an innocent child seeking comfort and protection......in the form of a poem is wonderful. Reading the poem my heart instantly goes out to the little girl.Such is the allure of little children......you can't just ignore them.You have put across your feelings very well

Sir, It was a great story rather happening which you presented in the form of a poem with some rhyming in some of the sweet stanzas. the relation between mother & child, relation between an admirer of child & the child herself , the state of a girl child has always interested me. Great story telling sir. You kept the reader gripped till the end. The conclusion was pleasing and heartwarming. The reader wants to reach out to the little girl and feels happy the child is finally pacified. Little children always tug at our heartstrings especially if they look insecure or troubled. This was a new experience for me.
I was also impressed by her intelligence when she requested me to close the door of their apartment.I thought being alone she developed a sense of responsibility too.

It is humble effort to depict the true story that happened today.
Perhaps I could not present it perfectly.
Nevertheless,some message could be shared.
The child about two years old came on the stair as her mother went to a nearby shop on a street.
The child was left at home alone.At one stage the child felt frightened in the large apartment.
When I was coming back from another shop to my residence at the fourth floor,she asked me in very mild voice to call her mother.Her tone was very polite though she was very young.
I could not advance any further step upwards and stopped to chat and comfort her.
