Forest Calls Me

I am indifferent to the frantic calls of forest

Forest calls me again and again.
Forest tells me to feel her pain.

Feller cuts trees like slayer.
He does not give heed to her prayer.
Birds and butterflies flutter in fear.
Ferns and flowers shed their tear.
All other wildlife cry for life.
Cruel feller growls with knife.

Forest calls me day and night.
Forest cries to see her plight.

I pretend to be busy over greater task.
Nobody knows me under my mask.
I give lecture and write against felling,
People get charmed by  story telling.
They give awards for my deed!
They chant slogans to inspire my bid!


Poor forest calls me again and again.
Her frantic calls die in vain.

I must agree with C.P. below. This really got my attention, because I love and have a great appreciation for nature. We are all energetic beings, even what would seem inanimate. But people have long lost their balance, how to give with one hand and take with another rather than just take with both. Thank you for sharing awareness and prompting mindfulness.

You can see that forest is calling me frantically and I have no real intention to go to her to stand beside her to help her.So I am showing that I am very busy with more important tasks.
The following lines are simple and self explanatory.

Now I don't understand. You first indicate that you will not hear the forest's frantic calls and do nothing to help, yet you then say that you give lectures and write against felling, which means you are helping.

In the moment when feller is cutting the trees,the best action would be to go straight to forest and stop the feller doing his merciless activities.
Lecturing and writing would not stop the real problem.It might be a publicity of me and no good to forest who is being killed.

But could you actually stop the feller yourself? By lecturing and writing you can make people aware of the problem, and as a group effort the feller might be stopped.

Lecturing,talk show in the media,writing articles or poems in the newspapers or magazines may create awareness.But they are not sufficient.
Practical action through group efforts the fellers might be stopped and thus the world with its people and environment might be saved.

really loved how you personified the elements in the forest. really got the message straight through me. the start of the 2nd stanza really piqued my curiosity on how you'll elaborate on how the forest calls. :))

I am very pleased that you have analyzed the whole piece from various
angles.This was really a challenge to bring the forest in the focus.
I viewed different aspects of forest and how she is related with other components of ecosystem.Then I tried to personify the characters so that the actual situation might be presented.
I can't explain all the steps for some events may flow like a natural stream as revelation.
As a poet you are aware of the process of creativity.

yes that is true. i admit all the elements are connected and ended with the idea on how the forest calls. it's just saddening that not everyone can hear the forest's call. especially here in the tropics where supposedly there is abundance in nature.
