Lovely senryu! It irks me when people call pieces such as these a haiku. Haikus relate strictly to nature; a senryu, human nature and events. This is a great SENRYU. Anyway, it seems pieces about current events are few and far inbetween. Thank you for sharing.

I took a very extensive study on haiku/senryu/5-7-5. A haiku, traditionally anyways, is strictly related to nature. Senryu is human natures and events. 5-7-5 is everything in between.

It's amazing how a sporting event (that word is sorely inadequate) can bring people together!

Yes, the Olympics maybe inspiring, but I don't think they can inspire a whole generation, with the exception of maybe a few stalwarts. I won't keep my hopes up though. I was blabbing about greats in the Olympic history and all of my classmates were like, "Who's Nadia Comaneci?"

I fear for the future of the planet.
