As Grief WithdrawsA Poem by Zach WorleySimply another way to look at emotionWhen fists clench that nails bloody the skin When crooked teeth grind, grating enamel. When pupils dilate When whites transfix When the heart pounds to the rhythm of rage When the mind clouds and memory becomes temperate and temperamental. When frost finds marrow When darkness dirties boiling blood. When primal nature rips and tears through tissue and sinew. When the time of grieving is endured. When the darkness recedes, When the marrow warms, When the temperate temperament of the mind reverts to normalcy. When the heart starts to its own drum, When whites and pupils fall into focus. When white teeth smile and bandages fix bloody
mistakes. When our anger suffers, When our grief withdraws. When we rediscover souls and the atmosphere shifts. © 2013 Zach Worley |
