His long time empty marriage was over
The kids have moved away,
All joint possessions have been sold or
In mutual agreement,
He got his treasured Corvette
She got the family house that she wanted
She moved on with her life
He is still stuck in his delusion of the past.
He signed a new lease
On an overpriced place to live,
Starting over again, wasn’t going to be easy
He needed a new lease on his half-spent life.
A successful bachelor friend appeared
With a hot chick on each arm
Telling him he needed is to be a ‘chick magnet’
Just the words made him cringe
His friend said he’d wrote the book
The friend had all the answers,
Use charm and show confidence,
Make them laugh Always look interested
Advice flowed like Niagara Falls
He tried to remember everything
His friend set up a blind date
Along with a list of do’s and don’ts
The date started well
Until his tongue got tied
He ran out of things to say
All the advise disappeared
Somewhere above his head
There were too many rules
None made any sense, except to be himself
His date appeared disinterested
He remembered to be polite,
That came naturally, not a problem
Let her have the lead; she was doing that just fine
When the night was over he assured her
He had a good time
He would like to see her again
She appeared not to care
So he left for home feeling he failed
He knew there was a long road ahead
He was feeling especially blue,
Rewiring his thinking was quite the challenge
He wished for the good old days
When he was home on First Street
Watching the woman
He no longer called his wife
In the kitchen baking a cake.
