Waiting...

Waiting...

A Poem by Yvonne Remington
"

Life only has one direction especially towards the end.

"

A roadmap of lines and creases portrays her weathered face
Her crippled hands resemble snarled trees without stately grace
Her slight spine, pliable and twisted into a pretzel curve
Confines her so there is nothing left to do but to sit and observe

For years she sits in her tattered rocker that remains her only rest
Watching through the window remembering days that were her best

The wild sea lies on the other side of her waiting window
Where long forgotten dreams have her caged in her own limbo

With no dreams for tomorrow, the four seasons come and go
Time has no meaning nor brings relief from her foe
Her only connection with today is a radio on a shaky old stand
Playing her favorite songs from a long forgotten dancing band

No one comes to visit the resolute spirit any longer
All her family have died or moved away to get stronger
Her precious feline companion left a long time ago
She could no longer take care of him but she did love him so

She holds dear her memories and fears her final fate
With nothing but NOW she just watches and waits

This is my second round on this website. My hiatus helped me develop into short stories. I have an anthology on Smashwords, but I realized I needed a community of like minded people. Please read, .. more..
