Broken Heart

Hurricane Ian swept through my region of Southwest Florida. This poem is dedicated to all those who have lost homes, families, and even their own lives.

My heart is broken...
...for all those who lost 
    their belongings,
    their homes...
...or some even their lives or loved ones...
    ...with the natural monster of a hurricane.

My heart cries...
...because of all the destruction,
    all the pain,
    all the wreckage...
...all that was taken away...
    ...with the natural monster of a hurricane.

My heart is shocked...
...with all that I have seen,
    the traumatizing nightmares,
    the horrid memories...
...the day that hope dwindled...
    ...with the natural monster of a hurricane.

    ...the day that life was in peril...
    ...the day that colors flew away...
    ...the day that green grass dried up...
    
...How my heart is broken...
