Insouciant

Insouciant

A Chapter by Dr. YumnaKay

how foreign it sounds,
nothing seems like it was;

the air we breathe
in and out,
the hubbub of days
seemingly comatose...

how foreign it sounds
to imagine living in a world
~ insouciant.

Well said Doc. These are indeed strange times, made more so by the constant barrage of messages about the virus...90% of the deaths are over 60...I'm over 60...men are more likely to die than women...I'm a man...do I worry...only for my family. All in all, call me insouciant.

Take care be safe.

Very true. And also a very beautiful way to capture the concern regarding this silence. The beauty lies in the brevity of the poem. It is the time when all of us are pining for the busy hubbub of life. And giving it a read I began reminiscing about the days we lived insouciant. But the good old insouciant days seem to be long back. Long before the lined corpses. Long before the depressing isolation of human kind. Long before the corona terror. Because the world in which we lived was not free of misery. This corona scare is just another supplement to the ordeal.

Take care.
Ayesha.

I agree. Thank you so much for reading and your thoughts, Ayesha. Appreciated.
Personally I'm quite enjoying the quieter pace of life and the deserted beaches... though the sadness of death and disease is ever present... as it always was...though different in scale and impact on our world. Perhaps we shall adjust to as less frenetic life-style... which is the norm for many at least. Perhaps we shall learn to live closer to reality and breathe the cleaner air.

Glad you are safe and well, Yumna
