A Little Dose of Reality

A Little Dose of Reality

A Chapter by Dr. YumnaKay
"

On the recent Kashmir issue. Ramblings of A Raging Mind.

"
But the sky is still up,
and we're laughing, in denial
...while blood is shed.

Worthless, so worthless,
perhaps, for those living
carefully sheltered lives

and all their perfectly manicured
hands can do is scroll
down to another post...

something happy, to keep
the mind away from
a little dose of reality.

There are no secrets,
but which are laid bare
in the open, yet still curtained,

while we wait
...for another looming
disaster.

Author's Note

Dr. YumnaKay
I saw this 'Save Kashmir' post on facebook, and some people actually reacted 'haha' on it, which is what inspired this piece.

Makes me sad to see some find humor in bloodshed...

Where loss of life is concerned it is tragic. Conflict is tragic. It doesn't matter what side you are on, there are no winners in these situations. How anyone can laugh about an issue that serious is beyond me. Crass ignorance I would say Dr Y. Your lines tell the sad story.

What is written here is what I would call a universal problem. It really happens everywhere.
Some people laugh over serious matters and are serious over matters that doesn't worth attention.

I just wish everyone would understand the magnitude of the consequences that lies behind these acts.

Thank you for sharing this, Dr.

Our species never seems to learn the lessons of history. Ambition, power and greed continue to rule paramount over the desires of ordinary people, the vast, vast majority of whom, simply wish to live their lives in peace and harmony.

l am minded that if those who give the order to create such disharmony and conflict were to be first in the firing line, war would instantly become a thing of the past.

Some of humanity is the definition alien. The world is turning rapidly
into a dark corner with one tragic episode after another, and there
are those who laugh about lives being destroyed.

For so many people "Reality" is goofy YouTube channels and crappy Reality TV. sigh.

Your poem should be read in every middle school and high school classroom
as a way to start the day, as a way to put kids into deep thought.

Thank you,
DAH

My pleasure!
It is easier to take lightly the pain and suffering from afar, much more the other side of a screen. Makes things seem so far away they are almost on a different planet, but truthfully they are all to real and all too common. This new generation has lost must natural affection as well as empathy and value for human life. It is scary how apathetic we are becoming..
Well written piece, deep, meaningful and holding a sad truth.

It was a pleasure.
There is science behind compassion. It's a rational assumption to have to think that a more compassionate disposition is more likely to stay alive and reproduce and therefore spread their genetics more than someone who is uncompassionate. Unfortunately it isn't even close to the only variable that affects that kind of thing though. At some points throughout the history of life on this planet it was a genetic advantage to be uncompassionate... a lot of what goes on behind the scenes and outside of civilization in nature is pretty brutal even today.

Aching... in your words... in the world... in the sufferings that should be shared but are diminished so we can simply move on... simply live our own lives in isolation...ignoring the pain... ignoring the healing needed to bring peace. Why is there so much horror we bring on ourselves? Why can't more journey on the pathways to peace? I appreciate your thoughts, your insights, your soul that seeks more...

Its incredible the insensitivity that some human beings...if you can call them that...just don't get it. What a sad situation and an incredibly written poem illustrating it. You are all that Doc..I appreciate you.

Thank you so much for your words here and for appreciating, Crowley. I do appreciate you too x
I do not pretend to understand the true dynamics of India and Pakistani relations and when you throw in the Kashmir element I become even more confused I know the ugly head of religion plays a a strong part in this conflict and my heart sinks as i see the people of Kashmir donning t-shirts and hats that say not Indian on them and I as a witness from afar wish they would don things that say "am human" to many people are putting so much energy into dividing us and not enough energy into uniting us these days
