In Your Rightful Place

In Your Rightful Place

A Chapter by Dr. YumnaKay
"

Ramblings of a raging mind. A feminist write.

"
You think that perhaps, a word or stare,
or a dirty phrase hurled down the hem of a skirt,
can keep a woman caged and scared.

Perhaps you think too, that the only place
which suits a woman is near a musty stove,
that she should walk just along your pace.

I woe such men on their high horse,
galloping around with no remorse ...

a woman's rightful place is right beside a man...on equal footing...neither one on a high horse.
When will this really happen?
It has taken too long, and still we are so far behind.
the rhyme scheme works really well here.
i cheered when reading this.

Ah, but times are changing. Maybe its happening a little too slow for the liking of most, but I hope it never changes to the point that I am not able to enjoy the sight of a beautiful woman or revel in the sound of a tinkling laugh. No man should wish to dominate another. Wonderful verse by you! I hope you have a good day.

Today there are female judges, Congress members, Senators, etc. In my view (popular or not), it's women who are holding ourselves back in today's society, more so than men are holding us down. But, that might just be based on my own personal experiences and observations. I see women choosing to be with men who treat them like children, like servants, like a being of lower intelligence, and they put up with it just because he is good looking, or has money, or enables a certain lifestyle for the woman. Misogyny cannot, will not, ever be stamped out, until women stop practicing it first.

Your thoughts are the same as mine. Thank you so much for your insight here. Truly appreciated.
Your writing has ever ALWAYS inspired women to think for thesmselves and to admit the same.. not easy in a state of what is most definitely 'oppression' in parts of this modern world. Of course culture and faith have their place but NOT in the past.. times have altered, radically.

Surely there's still a refusal in so many parts of OUR world to accept the fact that both men and women have the pre.created right to BE accepted as human beings rather than genders. The one without the other would kill Mankind forever.. thus, QED, both deserve tolerant and generous acceptance, respect and far, far more. May I suggest that if women ensure and inspire their sons to show respect to women, the world might be a better place.

Your voice is precious, Yumna, your skill with words is incredible, bravo!

There are a fair number of women writers at the cafe who've said this kind of thing in many different ways, but all sounding a little peevish. What I love about your rants is how you stay above the emotional peevishness . . . you express your slices intelligently with popping imagery & metaphors . . . it gives the sense that you are above such piddling nonsense (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I found peace in this poem of yours. It's sounds like words of courage from someone who knows her right. It's beautiful never not to be ignorance of the respect you deserve and your valuable worth.
It's painful many women remain in cage of so called relationship under the oppression of a man who claims to own their entire being. It's really a pitiful thing.
Though, It doesn't only from the men side along. Sometimes, it could emerge from the female side but nevertheless I think no one should maltreatment another. We all have equal rights.

You kinda missed the boat on the whole women's lib thing with the American audience. It's well written none the less. But if you get overly articulated praise from American commenters on this poem it's because they are just regurgitating cable news talking points. Actual women's lib activist's see what's going on in America and call it insane and a perversion of the original intent. If you ever find yourself with 3 hours of nothing to do I recommend you listen to the video at the end of this link...

If a man think a woman less than a man. Not a man. Women are a part of our world. The better part. I taught my sisters and daughters. You can do anything. Powerful and useful words shared dear friend.
