Follow your heart (?)

Follow your heart (?)

A Chapter by Dr. YumnaKay
"

Ramblings of a raging mind.

"
Follow your heart.
But ...

what if - you don't know the path your heart wants to follow --

what if - you've lost the trail  --

what if - you find yourself at crossroads --

what if - your heart is split on which way to go --

what if - the path you choose, turns out to be ... a dead end?

many times our emotions and desires play with our choices, and even sometimes mixing things for us making us feeling something which might be not true and lead us into a road we might not have walked through, still, everything is for a reason, and still I say, and will always say, trust Your intuition and follow Your heart.

seems confusion over what path to take comes around so often ..perhaps it is an important thing to be in it ;} i have a turning point in my life that your poem reminds me of ... i was a young man, with a growing family, trying to build a remodeling and repair business. it was in the late fall and winter is always a slow down time in construction, in the North, cold country. A larger company (whom I had subcontracted with before came to me with inside work that would take about a month to finish ... i was pretty thankful for this "blessing" but was not at peace about taking it .. so i prayed "Lord, please give me peace about what to do ... i prayed that prayer for several weeks and still did not "feel" comfortable .. so a couple weeks before the job was to start it finally occurred to me that the answer was with me the whole time .. i just didn't want to see it for wanting the job ... as it turned out that job got about 1/3 completed when the Contractor having not payed anyone but had taken a large payment from the customer .. skipped town .. and the whole project went to court ... whew! was i ever blessed to have sat confused and uncomfortable over that decision long enough to learn something important ;) i didn't have as much work nor the money but we made it through that and a lot more winters afterwards ... but your poem encompasses a lot more than that doesn't it ... just about any "crossroads" we find ourselves in can be related to your poem ... for me that "dead end" was avoided by backing away from he crossroads ;)))) sometimes that is not the case .. as a path must be taken come hell or high water eh! you got me noodle cookin' Doc ...thanks for sharing

Life is full of what ifs. Too many questions can prevent us from ever getting started on that pathway. Sometimes, just go where your heart takes you, and don't question it. You may be very pleased where you end up. I like your ramblings Dr Y. All good wishes.

Aye, that's where I landed too...thanks so much for reading, Tim. Appreciated.
this is very thoughtful... I want to answer each of these lines but the most important one is the dead end and to this I say there are no dead ends only new beginnings

Ah, I wish they really were...thank you so much for your thoughts here, BB. Appreciated.
Many questions are posed in this piece, and as always I really like how you make the reader think about what you have written. (at least me anyway)

But I have a question too - What if - you don't try at all.

Short, but sweet review I know. But your work is still of a very high quality.

Mark.

I love it. So many people come across these struggles and questions in life. The heart is very strong and sometimes it leads us to dead ends and dangers.

Aye, so it does...
Thank you for appreciating, Tamika 😊
A dead could be considered a lesson for us to learn from our mistakes of following or not following our heart
Such a well written, strong and beautiful piece!
Well done Yumna, keep it up!

No problem Yumna! :)
I love the question that this poses. Saying "follow your heart" is one of those things easier said than done ... besides, my heat's pretty dumb at times, haha.
I agree with Sapientiam in that nothing is certain. No matter what strategy we use in life, whether it be following our hearts or our minds, we will have to endure pain. In the book "Man's Search for Meaning," I read that suffering ceases to be so once one finds its meaning. I don't entirely agree with that idea, but it has given me insight on how to use pain for personal growth. Everything can have a reason if you're willing to search for it.

You wrote beautifully by the way!

i guess dead ends are possible more times than not...but i also feel like the heart will make its own decisions...and we are riding it like a backpack on a shoulder...going where it takes us.
