Winter Thoughts

The snow cascaded in front of her,

​f​

lakes landing on her lips,

​h​

er thoughts instantly went to him

​,​

​a​

nd that time he left her outside.

​Leaving, in that smokey aura

where winter leaves surrounded her.

Burying herself in a castle of emotions;

and there she sealed her heart​.

Turning the lock and throwing the key,

determined to leave her shattered mind behind.

Dancing with the snowflakes,

​s​

he disappeared into the night.

The night clouds enshrouded her very soul;

she questioned the mere thought 

of existing without him

​,​

 

as she came by the paths they'd crossed together, 

​

​

​wrapping​

 herself in the blanket of his warm thoughts

​.​

 

Her breathing became shallow,

a​

nd her thoughts were dark

​.​

Now wondering where it was he went to,

​

and why he 

​left​

 without ever saying good-bye.

​And in that moment she realized.

They'd never been one; but two separate beings,

and she was deluded into believing

that they were destined to be one...

She was unwilling to admit defeat,

however hurt that he ran with her heart,

with her head held high,

​ ​

and the moon as her guide,

​s​

he 

knew​​

 she 

would​

 be alright. 

Embracing these winter thoughts,

the night now smiled down at her

​;

​

 

​her nostalgia washed away​.

everything fell back to place; a blissful oblivion...​

Seems this collaboration is both an emotional healing and learning experience; phrased almost perfectly as the one writer melts into the other's thoughts. When one learns from hurt, time lessens the scar.. and, life goes on. Perhaps.

this is a beautifully written expression of truth and healing! I love everything about this! There comes a point in time when heartbreak heals in a way that doesn't dispel the memories of a breakup or a sudden separation, but sets them right.

Aloha, a very pretty poem. Gracefully penned with thought and a delicate touch. The symbolic use of winter is very well done. I enjoyed the hopeful turn this took, as wonderful as it is to have love in the company of another it is equally beautiful to be at home in our own company and to understand the value of growing in our own skin. The run away lover in this tale had a lot more growing to do, and was not quite ready for all she could offer. Great job to you both. Izzy

Letting go of the pain and moving forward, that's something not every one can do. But to write such positive sentences for that pain that even if the surroundings are growing dark and the warmth that we had is no longer there at least we learn to understand that some people can stay in our hearts but not right beside us.
Truly it needs a lot of strength of the heart to admit such reality. And to describe loneliness as her only ally, letting the night comfort her and the moon telling her that even in the darkest places there will always be light to guide and hope to survive.
A very beautiful poem I felt connected with it. Thank you for sharing :)

I can not agree more with what you say. It does take a lot of strength to accept that fact indeed. But I think there's a silver lining in every situation, however hidden but we gotta find it...

Hmm... I do as well, but it has really only been with one or two friends via lyrics to a beat... Never done a poetry collaboration... Would love to, but have zero idea where one starts trying to work on a piece with two people... Do you just both write a verse... Or... It looks fun, though...

Oh I have done idk maybe 6,7 collabs up till now but it has never been my idea lol it's always the other writer who comes up with an idea. So it's basically that they would write one and I follow acc to the theme. It's fun yeah 😉😊

One word 'disillusioned' is the fly in this otherwise excellent, deeply reflective and hopeful ointment.
It suggests to me, a 'passing of the buck' by the speaker - a sense of self-denial of blame, if you like. At worst it seems like she was misled.
I hate to be so seemingly anally retentive about that single word but I can't get past it. Its the fulcrum of her inner search and the result of the final analysis too.
(self) Deluded or disillusioned? That is the question...

I like the weaving of this piece and the overall hopefulness in the resolution. Great collab altogether guys!
