Star of My Life

Star of My Life

A Chapter by Dr. YumnaKay

Star of My Life

I remember the times we sat up late,
counting the stars scattered over the nightly sky;
and every time you raised your finger asking:
"Mamma, which is the brightest? Isn't it this one?"
You would point; and I, oblivious of the stars,
for my star lives beside me; within me, making me complete,
would point laughingly at you, my son;
touching your nose lightly, I'd say:
"It's right here, for real stars are not found on the sky,
but in the hearts of their ol' mum..."
Shining brighter than ever, you dim everything else,
as I fill my eyes with your light...
I remember,
I remember everything;
as I fade away but see you grow...
you; the star of my life.

Thank you so much for liking, Atashusi! Truly appreciate it 😊
Your closing lines came to a defined fruition for me, today. My dear neighbor and friend, who was blind, was laid to rest after several months of declining health. She had six grandchildren, who were the "stars of her life" - all of which she never saw in this lifetime - of which she now sees, in heaven - as she "fades away and sees them grow". Your closing lines were so apropos, and so eloquently stated. I simply couldn't resist in telling you so!

Thank you!

What a lovely feeling you evoked with the above line Yumna. Your writings are very warm and enjoyable. Even the sad ones, the fiction or the ones that you write for your/our friends here on writerscafe. I also admire your quality of appreciating every detail of people that you know. Good job Yumna.
