Realization

Realization

A Chapter by Dr. YumnaKay

Realization

Not a moment too soon
or a moment too late,
as if the night spoke
whispering softly,
and I finally realized …

what I should have all along,
how the last shred of hope
I was hanging by
was merely
a glimmer, a spark,
keeping me alive.

I went as far as believing
Luna would cast her spell,
and you'll fall back
into the cocoon of my arms;
that stars
would sprinkle their dust,
lighting a pathway to
relive our moments.

This,
and, maybe, it's a fact
you're not as gone
as I think;
that you'll appear
within the span of
a firefly's wink.

As I breathed,
hoping it was not to be
that I'd find an eternal distance
between us,
that even if I want you
a gap would remain
uncovered.

Yet, my breath's shallow,
thin as where
air and water meet,
here, where I am ...
choking back tears
in this moment's realization
that you've finally gone,
not even looking back,
never to return....!

Luna does cast her spell at times, but her light also exposes reality. That moment of realization, and acceptance of the truth is heartbreakingly sung in these beautiful words. Excellent flow throughout the poem, like a sigh of resignation. We all have that one unforgettable love in our lives, often it is lost. And it sometimes takes a lifetime to accept it.

Yes, so true. I feel it's really like a relapse. You realize it but still want to go back..

Aloha Yumna, you write with such emotion :) very heartfelt. There is pain in coming to realize such things and humility in acceptance. The words are so soft like whispers woven like lace. Really lovely work Yumna. Izzy

Of course.
Wow ... a beautiful piece of poetry with an enthralling visual presentation to match. My favorite aspect of this poem had to be its delicacy in that every word feels soft yet poignant. The imagery feels light and feathery, which (to me) provides a good contrast with the poem's melancholic theme. Also, I can't tell you how much I love the lines "thin as where air and water meet" ... they're so soft and simple yet amazingly beautiful, almost like a soft rain or a cool breeze.

As for critiques, I have a quibble with the third line of the third stanza: "and you'll fall back." In my mind, it makes more sense for "you'll" to be "you'd" because the rest of the poem is in past tense ~ that, and the speaker seems not to hold that belief anymore.
