My Poor Fish

My Poor Fish

A Poem by Becca
"

This is a ballad I wrote for a class. It's actually a true story. RIP, my lost fish.

"

I bought a new apartment but,

I think I'm moving soon,

The neighbors here are dirty thieves,

The landlord's nasty too.

When I was home the other day,

I found I needed bread,

"I'll drive right to the groc’ry store,

And get some things," I said.

I got distracted at the store,

(Forgot about the bread)

I saw a rather vibrant fish,

And named the cute fish Fred.

We shared a moment, Fred and me,

He looked straight in my eyes

I knew I had to take him home,

And love him ‘till he died.

I left my cart and took the fish,

Up to the check-out line;

I’m glad I had enough money--

He cost 12.99.

Yet Fred would not fit in my car;

(Miatas have no space)

I strapped him up onto my roof,

And drove back to my place.

When I got home, I did forget,

I bought that poor fish, Fred,

I walked into my homey flat,

And fell asleep in bed.

I dreamed about dear Fred you see,

And woke up with a start

I ran to get my pretty fish,

(I'm really not that smart).

When I went out, to my surprise

My fish, I swear, was gone!

Some thieves had swiped my fishy friend,

(Who would commit such wrong?)

So now I'm left with fish supplies

Some treats, a tank--unused,

I do not want to toss them, but

My cat won't eat fish food!

I read it with perfect rhythm and rhyme. I think you did this perfectly.

This is so cute :) You went a little heavy with the commas in the beginning, but there's a rhythm to it all
