They say that Love is blind,
but Friendship closes its eyes.

What happens when one regains their sight inside Love,
but Friendship has not formed well enough
to incite the closing of one's eyes?

How does Love turn a blind eye
to those little idiosyncrasies that no longer
seem so endearing?

is Love merely the ignorance of
affect in the face of affection?

or is it a fleeting negligence on the part of the intellect
that assess gain and loss,
incomprehensibly leaning towards gain
when ultimately loss is all that can be garnered
from such a union

as yours

and mine...

"How does Love turn a blind eye

...a very existential poem--
that questions love and
how we relate to affections...
...love this...excellent poetry...:-)

There is much that love is blind to as love first takes form, like some newborn critter, with eyes still yet closed - the love takes form - but within time, the eyes open - they see clearly, and the love cannot remain cloaked in the happy delusion of the dream... called love. Friends ignore this, friends ignore that, accepting you for your faults. It does not have the same gain/loss investment that love does, so what one can let go as a friend one cannot let go while in love.

How can lovers be friends, how can friends be lovers... no, this is not about sex; but rather it is about the white picket fence that remains waiting out there in a land of hearts awaiting foreclosure...
