My Duty

My Duty

A Poem by y&r
"

Forbidden love between a princess and a stable boy.

"

from the start,

I knew we couldn’t be.

Yet you’d shown me a world

Outside of my castle walls.

you’d opened my eyes

To your weaknesses, your pain.

You’d made me see

The things no other royalty would.

that night, that battle,

With arrows flying over our heads,

I knew I’d found love

With war and death right above us.

war is over, now;

We can’t hide our love anywhere else.

I wish I wasn’t born to the crown,

But I have my duty to take the throne.

maybe next life, my love,

Maybe then I won't have the duty

To give you up.

I loved the idea of it, it was beautiful and sad that she gave him up in the end.
I think though, it could be better if it had some rhyme (though it is wonderful anyway). I'd get to the last line of each stanza and it would almost stunt, like it needed that flow. But I know that rhyme it hard to manouvere around, so it's not absolutely necessary.
But anyway, it really is a beautiful poem with such a sad story.
